The Mini Pops MP-7 (also made under the Univox name as the SR-95 "Paceship Rhythmer") dates from 1967 and is currently the oldest drum machine in the Dubsounds collection. It has 2 banks of 10 rhythms which are selected by a flip switch and like the CR-78, it has 3 faders which can bring in a Quijada, Guiro and Tambourine rhythm to play on top of any selected main pattern.

The "Quijada" is the most instantly recognisable sound. No other Korg machine has this strange metallic twang which is now, (by association to Jean-Michel Jarre) very nostalgic. The other sounds are a standard "plinky plonky" affair but most of them will be instantly recognisable. The percussion sounds are particularly sweet.

It was made famous, (and therefore, highly collectable) by Jean-Michel Jarre who used the MP-7 as the main rhythm unit for his 1977 debut album "Oxygene". The patterns he used are actually a combination of rhythms using the old trick of pushing in several pattern buttons simultaneously. Two of these instantly recognisable combinations are re-created in the Dubsounds Sample Pack. The first, (JMJ Combo 1) uses Slow Rock & Beguine.

The second is achieved simply by flipping the rhythm bank switch to give a combination of Rumba and Bossanova. Obviously this switch flip technique was a relatively simple manoeuvre in a live situation eh JMJ?

In true Michael Caine fashion... not a lot of people know that the MP-7 was also used by Paul McCartney on his "Band On The Run" album. If you ever raid your parents record collection, you will spot it chugging away in the background (especially on a track called "Picasso's Last Words").

Recycle RX2 Loops:

Single drum hits (WAV):

This sample set contains 29 four bar loops. That gives you the original 20 rhythm patterns plus separate loops for the three additional channels (Quijada, Tambourine & Guiro which are mixed over the top of each pattern where required). There are also 6 combination rhythms including the Jean-Michel Jarre Combinations.

There are no individual drum hits included in this sample pack at the moment but individual sounds can easily be extracted from the RX2 loops.

What's so special about these sample packs? Quite simply, there isn't anywhere on the internet or in any commercial sample library where you can get this stuff. We made these samples because nobody else has.

All Dubsounds sample packs are sampled directly from our own drum machines. They are definitely NOT ripped from sample CD's, unlike many you see on Ebay at the moment, (which is a bit sad). All the rhythms are recorded directly into Pro-Tools from the machine's audio output and are not equalised, compressed or effected in any way. We want you to have the closest thing to the real machine as possible but with the added benefits of seamless integration into your VST host. The only thing we have done is to CAREFULLY remove any unwanted electrical noise and hum present in the signal, (if required) and taking extreme care to avoid damaging the delicate percussive transients. These samples were made for our own use first and foremost!
